As an Operating Engineer with U.S.

Smokeless Tobacco Company, the incumbent will assist the Control Room Operator/Shift Supervisor/Chief Engineer in the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

The primary activities of the job include, but are not limited to, the following (may perform other functions that may be assigned): Monitor and maintain the established operating parameters of boilers, water treatment systems, and cooling tower, as well as auxiliary equipment such as computer terminals (HMIs), gauges, meters, alarms, pumps, valves, filters, compressors, condensers, scrubbers, heaters, fans, safety devices, and air conditioning equipment to provide a constant supply of steam and heating, as well as safe and reliable operations in the plant.

Perform routine, preventative and corrective maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and repairing primary and auxiliary equipment as required.

Participate in work teams to solve complex operating and maintenance problems, and must be capable of providing rapid recommendations and courses of action in emergency situations.

Collect and accurately record appropriate operating data, and perform on-site water treatment analyses for the water/steam cycle system, as well as take appropriate corrective actions such as adding chemicals to regenerate dealkalizers.

Plan, shape, assemble, install and maintain steam and fluid distribution systems.

Communicate and collaborate with other work groups, assist as required with allied maintenance and continuous improvement activities, and ensure assigned work areas and cleaning stations are maintained to meet high safety and housekeeping standards.
